My Julips only had very simple rugs/headcollars which I made a long time ago so I decided it was time for an update A blue/green set for Goldie: I also plaited up his mane because it's so long! Bohemia's new rug and headcollar: It took me three tries to get her cheekpieces the right length.... I just KEPT making them too long! Thanks for looking

I like the red set best.

The black accents on the red set are really sharp! And the blue and green look great on the palomino. I've just been using jump rings, but the right hardware does make for a nice halter.

Thank you I only run as far as hardware for the headcollars, the rugs all fasten with double jump rings not proper fasteners.

Goodie looks fantastic - love the green on him and the plait suits him too (he's a lookalike of a real pony that Kits and I both used to know so he's one of my favourite Julips owned by someone else!). I really like the red set too, red gingham is such a lovely print

both look so smart - i love the headcollar hardware and accents, make them so realistic. also the rugs look super cosy and i think they're great colours for the pair of them.

I really like the red set too, red gingham is such a lovely print I still tell people about Goldie and how old he lived to be, how he wouldn't retire etc. I don't think I realised how unusual he was when he was still alive and teaching me to ride.

Ooh - Mumbleswan, this is going to sound really rude and I'm sorry (I was quite out of touch with the forums/hobby for a few years) - are you Em who ran the website competition a few years back? I have a lovely set of a rug and a headcollar from you that you made years ago for the competition, it was for a CJP who I never got at the time but I FINALLY ordered this summer I'll post some photos of him in it when he arrives, it's so well made and it's been waiting all this time!

wow they are amazing, all the rugs I make are nothing compared to that! lol, how did you make the fancy edges?

I'm guessing that the first two are edged with binding (no idea how that lovely red one posted by EG is done!). I just learned about it here this spring from a tutorial EG posted (http://j-club.proboards.com/thread/147/egs-rug-tutorial), and it's pretty fantastic for those nice edges. I had to track it down at a larger sewing shop, but it wasn't expensive and pretty easy to get the hang of. Which reminds me that I should make some blankets for my newer ponies....

It's called bias binding and the way I did it made it look far more complicated than it is , lol. The one I got from Em has a white lining and a red exterior and I think the edges were just folded over and sewn, there's no actual binding or edging.
