At this stage I’m just trying to gauge interest, I need to know how many people are likely to come in order to estimate costs and see if it would be possible. As I don’t think the Lake District has ever seen a Julip show, I don’t know how many collectors would be willing to come North! The Lakes are a lovely spot to have a holiday or just to enjoy the day (have I sold you on the idea yet?) with a wide range of accommodation locally – campsites, travel lodges and B&Bs.
The hall I’m looking at a hall a short walk away from a pub that serves lovely food, there’s an amazing fish and chip shop just round the corner and there’s a fair amount of parking on site. The nearest train station is Arnside, but I could arrange collection from Oxenholme.
I’m looking at a weekend date in June/July, depending on when suits most people. If you need any more details please PM me and I’ll do my best to help!
Here’s a sneak peak at a schedule (more classes to be added/ changed if there’s enough interest), this is just some ideas of what I’m thinking at the moment, but it’ll probably change.
Mould Classes
1) Arabs – Includes all moulds, old and new, with Arab in the name (e.g. Arab Champions, Arab Stallions, Arab Mares... any Anglo Arabs out there?)
2) ‘New’ horses – Family Horses, Farm Cobs, Show Cobs etc.
3) ‘New’ ponies – Dartmoors, New Forests, Pit Ponies, Donkeys etc.
4) ‘Old’ horses – This includes any ‘vintage’ versions of Connemara’s, Cob Mares etc.
5) ‘Old’ ponies – Any pony mould not currently in production
6) Altered Moulds – Any models physically altered, this includes dropped heads, feather added etc.
7) Mystery Moulds – This category is open to two types of entries. Any models that you don’t know the mould of, regardless of size, and any models that you think other people won’t know the mould of. The aim of this class is to help people identify moulds that they don’t know!
Colour Classes
1) Spots and Stripes – Any model with spots or stripes!
2) Greys – Any shade of grey allowed, pure white through to dark iron greys and anything in between
3) Chestnuts – Including flaxen and livers
4) Bays
5) Duns/Buckskins
6) Palomino’s/Cremellos – Any yellow/cream models without dark shading
Fun Classes
1) Pairs – Find someone else in the hall who has a model that matches one of yours
2) Look-a-likes – Bring along a photo or drawing of the horse/pony your model is based on
3) Dogs/Cats/Doves/Foxes
4) Cutest Foal/Yearling – includes Clydesdales
5) Best conga – Have you got lots of a particular mould? Colour? Pet? Any kind of conga qualifies but there must be some thread linking them!
Scenes Classes
‘3 day event’ – You can enter each of these classes separately but there will be a bonus award for the best overall series of entries in these classes
1) Dressage
2) Cross country
3) Show jumping
4) Riding School – Any scene from around the riding school, this could be lessons, cleaning the tack room or out for a ride, or anything else you can think of!
5) Historical Scene – Anything from history!
6) ‘Hunt’ Scene – The only requirements for this scene are a horse/pony, rider and at least 2 dogs!
Please vote and let me know what you think!
