As I live in The Netherlands I had never heard of them, at least not until I somehow bumped into EG's Flickr feed. I guess that's how I fell in love with them, although it wasn't until quite some time later when I ordered my first (and as for now only) Julip. What appeals to me most is the creative side of the hobby. I love making little tack and things. I am really curious to know: what got you into collecting Julips? And what does your collection look like now? And what's the thing you love most? Is it mainly the collecting itself or do you also adore the creative side of the hobby? Fire away!

I used to see them in the of 'Pony' magazines when I was little and pony mad and really want one but was never allowed one as they were too expensive at the time. Many, many years later I found some very tatty vintage ones in a charity shop which I bought and then Googled 'Julip' on the net and as was absolutely astounded that they were still available to buy after all that time, so after collecting them for several years and meeting lots of fellow Julip collectors at the shows, I was given the 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to buy the Originals part of the company and the rest, as they say, is history!

I first became aware of Julips around 1992-94 due to an advert in Horse and Rider. I used to pore over the pictures and order form, imagining what horse, tack, rider, and barn I would choose. Of course, with Julips being expensive to start with, plus the exchange rate, plus postage to Texas, my Julip dreams remained just that, dreams. When I moved to the UK in 2010, I was a bit slow to realize those dreams. My first Julip was a HOTY Rocket (say what you like, I love her) my husband bought for me at the Blair Castle Horse Trials in August of 2010. I didn't know about the difference between HOTY and Originals and was a bit disappointed in the unbendyness and roughness of the model. I figured it was a case of "things aren't made like they used to be" and moved on. In 2012 I saw my first Julip show at the first Utterly Horses and fell in love all over again. I bought a "painted while you wait" chestnut donkey and carried him home like he was gold. Not long after that I got distracted by spawning, so Julip Fever faded a bit, but not entirely. I found the forum, Facebook, and Miss EG's blog, but didn't get another Julip until I found a Family Horse for sale on Facebook in March of 2015. That summer I met Miss EG in person and attended Lake District live for the first time. It was down hill from there. I went to the show with two Originals and a handful of pets. I came home with two more horses and a lot more pets. Now I have 61 equines, 140 pets, and 16 riders, and a couple of websites. I think it's safe to say things have gotten out of hand.

I'm another one who couldn't afford them as a child. I went on the hunt for them a couple of years ago for my little girl, bought her one of the plastic ones, hated it then hit Google and discovered this small but dedicated bunch of Julip fans and it went from there. I definitely don't have as many as I'd like (who does?!? haha!) but I have a slowly growing herd

My mum had Julips as a child in the 1940s/50s, and must have realised when I was a kid they were still going, so bought me three horses, two riders and a dog for my ninth birthday (which I realise now was one heck of a generous present!!). Somehow I didn't really pursue more, but they were always in the back of my mind, and in about 2004/5 I randomly googled Julip and my word! I struck gold with Georgie's Julips - superfabulousness! More time passed, more random googling, and I struck EGs websites (you two are responsible for a lot ). And then, my word, discovered THEY WERE BACK IN PRODUCTION!!! Squeaking may have happened The rest is history

I should really be getting paid commission for this - let's see, perhaps a bonus pony for every new person I convert? In all seriousness though, I always get a little shiver when someone says they got their first Julip after seeing mine! <3 That said, I feel rather guilty that I haven't done anything with my lot in a while. I've not lost interest or anything, and I've got tons of plans for my little herd and the yard they inhabit, but my other collections have shoved their way to the front of my brain at the moment, and I really hope to make some new stables and do some more photostories once I get my room redecorated and have a bit more space! Anyway, I have George to blame for my collection; I wrote a blog post about it a few years ago so I'll link you it rather than copy it out as it's rather long! lastalliancestudios.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/a-history-of-julip-and-why-i-collect.html?m=1

Love this thread. I used to play round my friends house whose granddad would make beautiful stables for her Grand Champions and Breyers then one year she showed me a Julip Catalogue, well I was in awe, especially at the Originals. My parents couldn't really afford to buy big brands but my dad would always manage to source me some lovely Sindy and Barbie horses, second hand but in great condition. I didn't dare ask for these new horses I'd been introduced to so they fell to the back of my mind until my dad fell ill and I left school to look after him. One evening my mum went out so dad and I ( he couldn't speak after having strokes but he would nod or shake his head when I asked him things) we put on PharLap on vcr he had recorded on BBC 2 in 1991 when I was 5 and I was on eBay looking at some breyers to buy when a related search of a Julip horse came up. I got rather excited, yes I was 16 but I couldn't believe my eyes, the Hoty Moondance was up for sale so of course I had to buy him, for a bargain price of £9.99 and he was in perfect condition. My dad laughed then pointed at another one, Julip Original Legend but he was way out of my carer allowance budget. So I collected the Hoty models for a few years. Then I found Georgie's article in I think was in a Julip or Utterlyhorses catalogue, so I signed up to her forum in 2005 I think? and the love of Originals flourished! Granted my bad stewardship of money meant I had to sell a lot of my early ones but now, I save up specifically and then order. (Phew at 30yo lol) My 6 year old is turning into a model horse lover, so she's gradually being given responsibility to look after my Hoty guys and she's very good with them. I think I'll be ordering a foal original as her first one, as she wants to have her own collection to go on the far opposite side to my guys on the high shelf. I have a vintage Shetland courtesy of Elli, a vintage leggy Arab mare, a black spares ISH, Event horse catalogue model name escapes me, custom rose grey new turned head tb and 3 new aqh. 2 are custom and one is storm catalogue with dolls hair mane and tail Laura Bond had customised.

Pony mad child and always wanted one. Was stunned to be given a NF one Christmas as a teen by my parents who went into the Beauchamp Place shop to buy it. Added a second one bought off a friend at the riding school who was given one and didn't like it! (marmite mould arab - black with white mane and tail). After that the real horses took over. I used to see the HOTY models in the shops and thought it was sad that that was what Julips had become. It was only after I had to give up the real horses for health reasons that I rediscovered them via an introduction to ebay courtesy of my sister. I started doing a bit of research (yep found Georgie and EG's websites!) and bought my first two originals via ebay. Then I found the Julip spares list and bought a few more and joined the 'old' J-club. I can't actually tell you how many have now but it must be around the 50 mark plus a few pets and riders! Now I'm trying to catch up with the rug, headcollar, tack making stuff and I also have 1/12 scale tackshop and tackroom/office to fill with props - oh and 2 sets of Julip stables and a magpie stable to customise. ........and a number of Hoty riders and dollshouse dolls to redress ....and some Hoty bodies to customise....

I collected toy horses when I was little, so I saw adverts in My Beautiful Horses magazine as well as PONY. I sent off for a Julip catalogue in 2001 and spent years pining for Julips! My gran got my Bonnie & Banner for my birthday one year - maybe I was 9? - and I saved up for Jigsaw and Moondance. I joined J-Club at a similar time and made some wonderful friends so super glad I got involved in the community even if they've seen me grow up (so embarrassing, ahah). In 2006 I think I saved up for my first original, a portrait of the pony who taught me to ride after he passed away, then a few years later I ordered a catalogue "Galaxy". I stopped buying models through sixth form/uni although I always had a few out in my room, then when I graduated and got a job it coincided really nicely with Laura buying the company so there was this lovely resurgence of the hobby waiting for me at exactly the right time Elli and Jan took me to my first live show in 2014 and I got to finally meet people I'd "known" online for over a decade, I'm absolutely hooked now! My gran came along to the Hulland show and said what a nice hobby she thought it was too, everyone making their little scenes and accessories and being nice to each other. She does quilting and said it was no "weirder" than "cutting up perfectly good fabrics and stitching them back together again" which I thought was lovely of her

I'm another one who admired Julips from Horse & Pony magazine for years as a child, ringing up Julip to get the catalogues sent to me even though I couldn't afford to buy any ponies. The first version of J-Club was around in about 2001 and I discovered that around the time I bought my first one, got completely hooked and got into other model horse collecting/showing too, and I've never looked back My collection is a real mixture - I completed my HOTY collection a few years ago, I enjoyed trying to find all of the ones I was missing and that was really good fun, but they're all living in boxes at the moment because I don't have space to display everything. I've got lots of Originals - vintage ones, poorly ones, more modern ones, portrait ones, all sorts really. I love the nostalgic feeling of them and the character they all have. I don't make much for them but I do enjoy it when I find the time, sometimes I'll do customs and I do enjoy that. I love the collecting side of it (getting a new pony always brings back the excited feeling of buying my first one!) but also love the social side of it all - the forums and the shows, and the lovely friends I've made through collecting (we sometimes meet up and do totally unrelated things, like horse riding, days out, gigs, etc., but only met because of Julips!)

I was introduced to them by Amanda and Georgie at a New Year Fun live show. Thought they were very cute but I was still new to showing and even Breyers back then. Next showI was given the link to the spares page after I oogled the Julips up again and asked even more questions. Took a while to managed to nab on but I did, Still have him but over the years and various house moves and a failed, leaky storage gone wrong, he's had new hair and repainted. Thankfully no-one bought him the few times I've had to put my collection up for sale so here he is. My lovely semi tame Mustang Chain Reaction. (I'll let you guess why he ended up with that name )

my friend annie (who some of you know as charm - neither of us are that active on the forums anymore i don't think) had a few HOTYs when we were both about 10. we're 22 now! she set the ball rolling for me.
collecting anything is a bit on the back burner at the moment because i'm a broke student, and i find it hard to enjoy model horse stuff when i'm not actively doing real horse stuff, which i don't have the time or money for right now. when orders open again, though, i'll definitely be ordering a shetland. i've been waiting for a chunky shettie mould since i started collecting!

Around Easter 2004 I went to a table-top sale with my mum, where she spotted a set with a couple of horses and riders with a stable set. I'd never heard of Julip but mum had always wanted Julips when she was younger. So when Mum pointed out a pair of scruffy horses and said I should have them, I was a bit surprised! Mum bought them for me and I enjoyed them for a while but didn't really find out anymore about them until that Christmas when Mum and Dad bought me a HOTY Harlequin, I Googled Julip and decided to spend my Christmas money on a Cobweb set. Then I found the Julip forum... drooled over all of the horses, particularly the originals, and I've been buying Julips ever since I love that the Julip community is so relaxed, and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I enjoy going to shows, but mostly to catch-up with everyone and because it gives us all an opportunity to play and make scenes!

I've collected model horses for years, but never heard of Julips until I saw some of EGs posts on a different forum. I liked the playfulness of Julips compared to the hyper-realism and competitiveness of other types of model horses. Julips seem more about how much time and creativity you put in rather than how much money. Got my first one from a spares night right here.

I don't think I will be original when I say I've found EG's photos a few years back I've become quite interested in them, cause it's no secret they're so cute! Then I found this forum and photos of others' Julips. I ordered two in late 2015, but I sold them a few months later, as I felt they were just gathering dust at my place But looks like there's no escaping from them, as I've just ordered one moments ago XD I love their simplified, yet full of personality look. Even the newly made ones have that vintage-y feel to them, probably due to technique and materials that are used to make them
