I recently acquired a pair of new (to me) vintage Julips. On Facebook we thought that Bellwood Sexton is likely an Icelandic. Do others agree? Is Wake Robin Churro a Shetland or a Moorland? Does anyone have any guesses as to age? They are completely without mouth markings, have very detailed heads with well defined nostrils and eye-sockets. Their leg wires are different from my other 70s models being twice as thick and a dull grey instead of silver. Churro is undergoing surgery at the moment while I'm hoping to get away with only a little patching and light paint repairs on Sexton. Thank you to everyone for looking!

I'd probably agree Icelandic for the chestnut. I thought the grey looked more like a sheep than a pony when I saw it on ebay. It looks sort of bloated. I think it's an old Welsh Mountain though, it definitely doesn't look like a shetland to me and I don't think the head carriage or hindleg position is right for a moorland. Could be an old New Forest too but I think that may have been a little bit bigger, about the same height as the Icelandic whereas that one looks a bit smaller which I think (from what I remember from trying to ID mystery ponies in the past) the old Welsh Mountain was. For dates I'd think they're probably 1960s.

Also I initially somehow misread Wake Robin Churro as Wake Potato

Thank you for your thoughts, Scarlett. I did not know there were two versions of the Welsh Mountain. Do you know of any reference pix of one? EG thought Churro looked sheepish, too. That's how he got his name as a Churro is a type of sheep as well as a delicious fried bread.

This was a pony I had (I think Elli owns him now) my best guess for him was old Welsh Mountain but he was also fairly badly damaged (his head especially, but I think his body had probably bloated too) so it was hard to be sure. That and that I haven't seen many of the old Welsh Mountains anyway - whether there were just not many made or whether most of them deteriorated even more badly than these and got binned I don't know but there don't seem to be many of them around. Most of the few I've seen were in far better condition and looked more fine-boned/delicate but I think that was probably just down to age variations (and because also they hadn't deteriorated the same).
