Apparently December is the month of Stable Pets for me. I won a few from the Dec. Spares Night, then won an eBay lot a few days later, and then managed to snag a quartet on Facebook a little while after. As I was waiting on a couple of special orders I decided to defer satisfaction until everything was ready, so the lot I won on eBay shortly after Spares Night arrived first. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I didn't read the description until after I bid (darn phone app) and was a little disappointed to learn that the Equorum pets and the Julip Mongrel had been removed from the auction, but not from the picture even so I was thrilled with the pets I did end up with. All of the dogs came with the collars they're wearing and were obviously someone's prized pets. The seller had received them all in a lot two weeks before and didn't know anything further about them. I've noticed that a Julip yard doesn't seem to be complete without at least one dalmatian, so these two were essential. Is anyone able to date these guys or ID the artist by the eye style? Cearan Mhoire Pirate Pete is more heavily spotted and has yellow-brown and black eyes while Cearan Mhoire Perdita (I know, it's such a cliche, but she demanded the name) is more spbumly spotted and has black dot-and-dash eyes. Ever since seeing Miss Laura's spaniel, I've wanted a red and white Springer Spaniel of my own and Cearan Mhoire Rosalie certainly fills the void. I'm assuming she's a catalogue model like the dalmatians since I've seen several others. I have some grand plans for this unpainted dove, but they don't include actually painting her Does anyone have any information about the dogs - the dates they were available and/or their catalogue name?

The dalmatian on the left comes from when Nat and Hazel were painting at Julip, the eyes are the giveaway for that but the spot style too. The one on the right has Sally's way of doing eyes, a dot with a long tail like eyelashes - Annabel did do them the same way for a while, but her later ones had round black dot eyes, which was fine on labs and hounds but did look funny on dalmatians, heh. I had to laugh at the 'spbumly' spotted description, clearly the forum's censorship system got a little unneccesarily concerned over the particular order of letters in the word spárse The spaniel you have there is something special! Not a catalogue model, but a limited edition made as prizes for one of the official Julip competitions in 2008 - I think there were four made (winners in each category got a spaniel, runners up got a westie terrier, but I can't quite remember how many categories there were!). These older ones have docked tails and shortened muzzles, the spares spaniels made later on have long tails and unaltered heads, as well as slightly different paintwork style.

spbumly Yeah, I don't think there were more than a handful of those spaniels made! I know George has one, you obviously have another but I forget who has the others. I won one of the westies though!

Haha I didn't even notice the correction. That A-word doesn't register in the American mind Thank you George for the most excellent dalmatian primer and for the information on my spaniel! How cool! I never imagined she was anything other than a pretty face; I saw a couple and just assumed everyone had one! I'm absolutely tickled.

I can't work out whose collection those models were from, it will be someone that I know from the forum and would seem obvious if someone told me, I'm sure! A dalmatian was featured in catalogues but the variations are just variations over time and with different painters, they aren't different models, if that makes sense - the dals' catalogue name was Measles though.

That's the thing with an all-British admin team, we spell the ruder words our way! You'll find you can say 'ass' all you like (clearly we are all ever such polite people who would only ever need that word when referring to our Julip donkeys )

Lovely collection of new additions, I love the spottier Dalmatian in particular I have one of those spaniels too! I think they were the drawing/colouring competition prizes, were they? I won a spaniel and bought a Westie from someone after... I think it was someone called Olivia... I can't place who it was on the forum though - if you look on the old Julip website at the competition page you can see this spaniel in the Easter competition and Halloween entries too

Measles? What a name George, you said that the more detailed eyes are by Nat and Hazel and the dot-dash eyes were probably Sally's, did they all paint at the same time, or is one style earlier than the other? I like trying to nail down at least a rough date whenever possible for my database. The dot-dash dog is fairly stiff, if that makes any difference? I enjoyed seeing Olivia's pictures on the Julip Horses site, I knew the dogs must have come from an active collector with those collars - I strongly felt as if I had seen these particular ones before, but I'm sure the ribbon is fairly common. I need to get off my tokhes and get the rest of my doggie herd dressed I'm eagerly awaiting my next two pet shipments!

The one with the detailed eyes will be from a roughly similar time to the spaniel, the other one will be a bit older (although not drastically older).

I got some of the horses from the same seller. I don't know Olivia, she wasn't someone I ever talked to as far as I know but I had seen pictures of a lot of her model horses on (I think) old J club and the Equorum forum and I always really liked several of them (it seemed a bit sad though seeing them all on ebay being sold on by someone else who clearly knew nothing about them).
(I had one of those prize terriers but I got it in a lot of stuff from someone else (don't know who. It might have been Josie?) and then I sold it but again I don't know who to. Stacey, I wonder if that's the one you bought?)

My last two batches of Julips arrived together today! Part of my Julip order is top secret until it arrives in its new home in the US, so I can't share it yet, but I can show off my loot from the last Spares Night. No one has a name yet, but they sure are cute! The cats have the most lovely tabby markings; Mr. Richard is really skilled at those tiny little details. I can't believe I haven't commissioned portraits of my two boys yet. I also got a rug and halter in Christmas colours (I asked for something bright) and a batch of teeny tiny ribbons as a treat from Miss Laura. The next lot I purchased from Miss Samantha on FB. I haven't pestered her yet for details, so I don't know much about them. I was disappointed when I missed getting one of the airbrushed dogs from the Spares Night, so I was pleased to see this one pop up in my Facebook news-feed last weekend and how cute is that long-haired mongrel? I'm such a sucker for that mold.

They're all lovely (and yes, you need to immortalise your gorgeous moggies in latex form!) but that little black one in the last photo is just too cute - look at those eyes!

I'll need several to document their changes in colour from kitten to adult I know! Doesn't she have the sweetest little face?!

Just to confuse things; I didn't paint a lot of animals, and a lot of the ones painted in 'my style' were actually done by a Polish lady Annabel employed in 2008\2009 - I did a quick mock-up and she copied them (perfectly!) So all of the regular catalogue dogs came with that spot pattern and those three-dot eyes I guess that doesn't really change the dates but thought I'd mention it. Lovely lot of animals though, really cute!
