As some of you will know, I take part in the Horse Art RPG (HARPG) on Deviantart. It's a bit like photo-showing, but with drawings rather than photos, and there's a storytelling element to it as well. It's great fun, and I'd really recommend it. I base my digital herd on my Julips, so if I want a new HARPG horse I need to get the latex equivalent first. It's supposed to stop me from creating too many horses but well, that's not really working. XD
There's an event on at the moment called the 'Kaimanawa Challenge' where you adopt a wild Kaimanawa (the wild/feral horses of New Zealand) and gain their trust and train them on. I'd followed the story of a friend's horse last year and really wanted to give it a go myself and when I saw a gorgeous blue roan stallion pop up in the 'round pens' I couldn't resist.
Of course, this all meant that I'd need to acquire him in Julip form so you can imagine my delight when a blue roan Family Horse came up for sale on facebook last week! I was going to order a FH or Connemara for this horse anyway so it was fate that one such horse should become available, mere days before the event officially opened!
Each horse came with a little trait or quirk, and this one's was 'We're not sure what happened to this boy, but he's covered in old scars. He's terrified of cars and engine noises.' which, from a storytelling point of view was incredibly interesting. It also meant that his Julip equivalent would have to be given accurate markings so I set upon him with paints and mohair and well, here he is!
I named him Toa, as it's a Maori word which can mean 'brave'. - a bit ironic for a horse that - for now at least - is terrified of everything.

I made his halter especially for him, though it went a bit wrong and doesn't fit him quite as well as I should like so I may end up making him another at some point.

He wasn't hugely keen on going into the horsebox and had to be chased in...

...however, he settled slightly on the plane home.

If I have the time I'd like to tell his story though photostories but I think it's more likely that it'll happen mostly through art, which I'll keep everyone updated on!
