So, I've got my first special order after a while of 'shall I, shan't I' and I'm so glad I did! There's a few that I'd like (no surprise there then) but I figured the first one should be extra special
This is Utterly Butterly...she was a beautiful mare that my best friend bought when she was fifteen, from a stud farm in Ireland, where we think she was used as a teaser mare (and if you saw the way she behaved near the boys' field, you'd see why ). She came over on the ferry with another horse named Joseph (she was called Mary...) and it was in the days pre passports, so we can only hazard a guess at TB x Fjord.
We shared this wonderful mare for a few years, and she was so genuine, willing to please (but still a diva with certain things and a...penchant, shall we say, for the male equines ) I remember my dad going mental when she came and marched all over our new block paving, heh.
Anyway, we had her vetted and the vet noticed a bony prominence on her left knee, but she came up sound and he said there was nothing to worry about. A couple of years after this, we noticed her a bit stiff, so called the vet and they said well, it's intermittent, and probably not concerning, but they would do some tests. Long story short, her knee joint had collapsed, and the bony prominence was new bone growing like scaffolding around the knee (that's as much as I could understand). They did say that if she kept the knee moving she would probably be good for light hacking as long as we gave her a small amount of bute every other day. Sadly things got worse, the knee stiffened up completely and we lost her in 2004. I miss her so much her kind face, big fluttering eyelashes, her velvety muzzle nipping at my pockets for treats and her stress fits at plastic fencing, haha.
So here she is! I've not got any pictures of her in the yard yet because, quite honestly, I'm like a kid at Christmas and couldn't wait haha. I have to say, I am astounded with how close she is to reality, Laura has done an absolutely awesome job (as you'll see from the pictures, she's a strange colour) and not only has she captured all of her little features perfectly, she's also managed to capture Buttie's kind expression and gentleness in her eyes. So thank you Laura; one very happy lady here!
And this was the reference photo (amongst others!) The first one shows her in winter, and the second one is in summer, which is how I wanted to remember her.
Sorry for the lengthy post!
