Some new headcollars and rugs I've made since the beginning of the year. Not all the horses have got both yet, cos I like making halters much more than rugs, so even though it's really satisfying to see them all snug and smart in matching sets, most of them get their headcollar first
Archibald the connemara in dark green and gold, I found the bit of tartan fabric and based the colourscheme on that, cos it's gold some metallic gold in there, and so had the weird wired ribbon I've edged it with.
His headcollar has some gold-coloured plaited thread over the top, which was fiddly to glue on but looks quite good, I just need to replace the headpiece strap with a longer one cos it somehow got cut far too short and won't do up properly!
Cos Archibald's got mohair I didnt want to make his set using him, cos it'd get all messed up and need moussing all over again, so he had a stunt stand-in, Dun Faelin, who's the same mould. Only then I felt sorry for him, getting to model for the set and wear it only to have it taken away, so I had to make him one of his own to keep
His headcollar, made from some gold-centred ribbon I got ages ago but didn't have a use for, I thought it suited his dun yellow-and-black colour quite well.
Gaia being an earth goddess needed something nature-themed, so I chose this nice brown fabric with stylised leaves, and edged it in a pale green
Her headcollar's got little bits of satin ribbon stuck on top of the grosgrain, I remember satin-inset ones being in the Robinsons catalogue for a few years and borrowed the idea
Now all the rugless ones, I did go out and buy a load of bias bindings the other day to encourage me to make up some matching rugs, but for now it's all just halters...
Temeraire with satin over grosgrain, but full stripes which fold round the ends rather than little inset pieces
Kamina with two shades of green and plaited embroidery thread overlaid. The ribbon is actually that saddle-stitched one from a few years ago but cos I'd used that several times already I pulled out the stitch and then had to cover the holes with something else, heh
Susannah the cob with matching black and white, this time the plait is pulled through the ribbon so the ends are glued on the inside out of sight
Aubrey in rust and brown, for no other reason other than that it matches his hair
Skylark with brown velvet attached to the main parts of the headcollar, I'd never seen such narrow velvet ribbon before so I got some and then had to think what I could actually DO with it
And finally Echo the arab mare in green and yellow, the green stuff is really weird cos it has a fine black edge line, then some clear thread, then a bit of metallic shiny dark green in the middle. It's no good for using on it's own cos it's so see-through and wouldnt glue to itself, but it can be attached to other ribbons and looks different depending on what you put behind it
