I bought these guys in August, picked them up in the States in September, and just took pictures of them today (it's been a busy semester). I was told they're both customized from HOTY models, but I like them too much not to share. This is Garth, named because I was State-side for a Garth Brooks concert when I picked up the models. And this is Cheyenne, for the song "The Beaches of Cheyenne" (It seemed like a better option than "Friends in Low Places"). At first I thought they were in the same pose (driving team!), but Garth is cantering while Cheyenne is pawing/prancing, and the raised legs are opposite. I could probably still team them up with some angled photography, and they make a cute pair just prancing on my shelf. Garth and Cheyenne did have a Julip Original travel companion that I'll hopefully be able to do something fun with for the photo show--I assume these guys aren't eligible, so they get their own thread.

They are both lovely and of course you can enter Garth and Cheyenne in the photo show, it's for all Julips including HOTY's and any customs, it will be lovely to see your photos

I really wanted a Julip draft horse, so I'm quite happy with this pair. I'll have to get some better pictures if they're eligible for the show! Garth didn't want to stand on the artificial grass, so I had to figure out how to prop him up and it didn't work so well. Let's see what I can come up with after work tomorrow.

One of the easiest ways to prop up a horse which has trouble balancing on fake grass is to use a little bit of blue-tack or sticky wax under the opposite hoof - so if it's his front left leg which is raised, pop the sticky stuff under his back right hoof, and press his foot down firmly, then take the photos quite quickly before it lets go and he tips over! You can also tilt the grass base a little bit, by laying it on something solid like a piece of cardboard or a thin hardback book, then putting a pen or pencil under the edge so the whole thing is at a slight angle - this alters the balance of the model and stops them falling onto the raised leg (I do this one a lot with Stablemate scale models where blue-tack under a foot would show!)

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to get some some tacky stuff one of these days. :-) speaking of: Does clear dental wax work for holding tack on Julips? It's what I used on the hard plastic models (Breyer etc.), but I wasn't sure how latex would respond. I really need to make my ponies so e tack, but I don't be able to get the bridles right without something to hold the bits in place.

Don't they have mouth slits? I use very thin fuse wire for bits so they stay in without damaging the latex.

These ones are custom HOTYs with milliput muzzles, they don't have mouth slits You can avoid using sticky wax by gluing the cheekpieces of the bridle to the noseband, so the bit is just held in the right place without being stuck on. In-hand show bridles and driving bridles have the noseband threaded through the cheekpieces in real life anyway, so it's only riding ones which need a dot of glue - it doesn't show or look weird cos you just put it on the inside of the strap where the nose and cheek naturally cross.

Sounds like I'm going to have to get creative. Western (show) bridles don't have nose bands, but I could probably do the wire for the Originals. My customs might just have to be hunters.

I know that! XD She said latex so I assumed the Originals were being discussed.
