Hi guys, Alice here! I'm one of Sally's friends, we kept ponies together ages ago but I had to sell my horse when I went to uni. Sally texted me the other day to say she'd bought this place, and asked if I wanted to come and ride Paprika; I (excuse the pun) jumped at the chance! So I thought you'd like to see some pictures of our jumping session, I'm a little rusty but Paprika looked after me so well! First, Sally got me doing some flat work to get Paprika flexible; she hasn't ridden him in a while but really, he was fantastic. Then those dreaded trotting poles! He's got a bouncy trot which makes it hard to sit to but he didn't knock a single one. Sally always says to ensure I'm straight going down the jumping line, otherwise it makes your horse more likely to run out. We put a small cross pole up and he just trotted straight over it! Sally was laughing because I'd gone straight forward into John Whitaker pose ready, lol This was better! He popped it so nicely. This was a little hairy! Because he's got such a slim neck it makes it really hard on landing (I did collapse like a sack of spuds afterwards, so that's why there's no picture, haha) Giving Paprika a fuss! I love giving this lad treats... Then my doggy, Clara felt left out. Luckily Sally had a good supply of dog bones! Anyway, Sally and I were talking afterwards, and we started talking about ponies and how I'd love another one...she's going to take me up to Graham's yard, a guy who owns the yard where she used to ride, he's got a few youngsters that she thinks might fit the bill! So exciting! I'll keep you guys posted. Much love, Alice xx

Paprika is a handsome boy! Hehe thank you I can't take all the credit though, he used to belong to Elli then she kindly sold him to me, he's such an unusual colour with gorgeous glossy hooves! Elli, you must have taught him well

Thank you to be fair a lot of the inspiration comes from Christine's (EG) photo stories on MHL, I love looking at all the pictures and how well they're set up! I need some proper backgrounds that are a bit longer as in some shots you can see the edges, also a better arena than a couple of cork placemats that I pinched from downstairs!

Lovely story I've found the cheap version of that kenetic sand is really good. Just need the time to take photos when it's not dark!

Ebay called Motion sand but Tescos have started to sell some too called Craze E sand. I've got a box of Motion. Tub of Craze E Small packet of Kinetic I prefer the Motion out ofthe whole lot as leaves the less mess and sticks to your hands the least.

This is sooo cute Helen! I love all the little comments about what Paprika is like to ride, that makes it so realistic I saw some "sand putty" yesterday (went shopping with my mum and she was very patient while I investigated things that looked "useful for models", lol, we were meant to be buying Christmas presents and clothes), I think it was the science museum brand. It was about £12 a tub but that's still cheaper than kinetic sand.

What's the advantage of using fancy gooey sand over actual sand sand for model photos? Everyone's talking about it as if it's the best thing since sliced bread, but even though I can see why it would be fun to play about with, I don't get why it would look any better or more realistic in photos?

I like it because it's really easy to tidy up after use, unlike real sand which even if you keep on a tray or something, still manages to go everywhere!
