I'm looking to buy new stables for my horses and have seen some lovely looking ones on the model pony tack shop. Has anyone ordered anything from there, and if so what stable size do Julips need? XD thanks

They have a really poor history when it comes to sending things out - loads of stuff arriving weeks or even months after it was ordered or not arriving at all, or things turning up broken. They used to be called C.S.M. in the 1990s and they were rubbish then and then they were Ponies in Miniature up until a few years ago I think but they didn't seem to get any better still and even after changing their name again I've still seen accounts of stuff taking months to arrive or just nothing arriving ever. They seem to sell through ebay sometimes though; if possible that's probably safer than buying direct from them so long as you pay with paypal but personally I'd probably not want to touch them again. I had one or two of their older stables in the past that I got secondhand and they were nice in some ways (a decent size and superficially they looked quite nice) but pretty poorly made in others, like the 'hinges' on the doors were just bits of duct tape and the stone/tile effect was just cheap dolls house paper. That put me off the company (whatever name they go by) even more. Unfortunately I don't think there are many other options for Julip sized stables any more. Sometimes decent ones may come up for sale secondhand but otherwise making your own seems to be the only real alternative (that's mostly what I do now).

Haha that's brilliant! The one I'm currently using is an old one that my dad made me ages ago- but now the Julip herds expanding two stalls just isn't big enough

Haha yes - there can never be to many stables once you have a julip herd. My barn has 7 stalls, but only two of them have julips in, the others have all got other makes, but I'd love to have an all julip barn one day

I'd love to have lots of proper big wooden (or MDF) stables and barns but it's not really practical for me. But you can make some pretty nice stables even just with cardboard (or foamboard). you can get the same sort (or even better quality) brick/stone/tile effect paper as on those stables to cover them in (also I recommend stocking up with wooden lolly sticks. I've used them for making all sorts on my buildings - stable doors, wooden wall panelling, door frames, tack room shelves, saddle racks, crates for grooming tools etc).

XD thanks I've got one of the more recent 'Model Pony Tack Shop' stable blocks - it's probably a bit small for the bigger originals but is great for a lot of them and it's nicer than the stable blocks from them used to be, the doors are still hinged using tape (like duct tape, not normal sellotape) but they are lots neater than I remember them being before - if you didn't know they were tape hinges you wouldn't really notice, it's covered with wooden 'hinges' now but didn't used to be. Everything Laura has just said about their reputation has proved true in my past experience with the company though, I ordered from them more than once a number of years ago and had nothing but trouble. The stable block I have now (I used to have a few, back when they were called 'Ponies In Miniature', and they made more options) was bought on eBay from them and was sent promptly, no problems - eBay gives you a bit more of a guarantee of getting your stuff but I don't know if they're selling any that way now.

I think Manda on here had some stables she was selling at the live show a couple of weekends ago, might be worth giving her a message and seeing if she still has them they're nice wooden ELC ones if I remember right.

I've decided that dad's going to give me a hand lol- if that fails, I'll send her a message

The hinges on the PIM (or CSM, I don't know how old they were) stables were essentially the same, I think. I mean I haven't seen any of their recent ones up close but the old ones I had did have pieces of thin painted balsa wood stuck on the doors over the tape to make them look more like hinges. Unfortunately the tape glue presumably broke down after a while and so the doors (especially the top stable doors) started to sag really badly but then I found you couldn't just replace the 'hinges' easily because you had to break off the balsa bits to get the tape off which was really difficult anyway and it spoilt the doors and then it pulled bits off the brick paper trying to get the tape off the other side and spoilt that too. Aside from tape not being strong enough to hold the doors on long-term it just seems like a really amateur way of doing things for what's supposed to be a proper business. You'd think they'd have managed to source some decent miniature hinges or just figured out a more reliable (and professional) way to hold the doors on by now (also I'm amazed they're still managing to keep on going after all this time despite being them being so consistently bad at sending things).
