Inspired by Stacey's post turning into a discussion of Julip colours, I thought I'd sit and tally up what colours I already own, and whether there's any big gaps in my collection!
Apologies if this list becomes a little long, but I've been collecting for a long time, through seven different painters who've done colours in different ways, and I'm sure there's going to be quite a bit of variety as I start scrolling through my herd!
black
medium chestnut
flaxen chestnut
liver chestnut
red chestnut
haflinger-style pale chestnut
medium bay
dark bay
light bay
exmoor mealy bay
brown
white grey
light grey
dappled grey
mulberry grey
rose grey
fleabitten grey (plus Julip's old signature fleabitten grey with dark points)
palomino
sooty palomino
pale (isabella) palomino
cremello
perlino
buckskin
yellow dun
mouse dun
blue dun
grey dun
dunalino (palomino dun)
amber champagne
silver black (that rocky mountain horse colour which looks flaxen chestnut)
blue roan
brown roan
bay roan
dun roan
chestnut roan
piebald
bay skewbald
chestnut skewbald
dun skewbald
brown skewbald
grey skewbald
palomino skewbald
sabino roan
manchado (special patchy roany pinto colour for the criollo Mancha)
leopard appaloosa
semi-leopard appaloosa
blanket appaloosa
Having a quick look at a colours chart made for real horses, the major gaps in my collection seem to be :
frame overo pinto - I've got a custom painted as Hidalgo, but no originals at all!
red dun - all of mine are black or bay based duns, nothing with a chestnut base (cream body, ginger points and mane & tail)
frost, varnish/marble, snowflake, few-spot or snowcap appaloosa - I seem to like leopard/blanket/somewhere-in-between
LOTS of the possible mixtures of cream/silver/champagne/pearl/dun which can each apply over the top of each other and create new colour combinations
Anyone else fancy going through what you've got already, and working out if there's any obvious - or more obscure! - colours you've not got yet?
