A stable for the Wollepluis ponies Somewhere last year I bought a Model Pony Tackshop-stable from astudyinscarlet. It was in lovely shape, but I planned on giving it a full redo, to make it fit in better with the 'theme' I've got going on. For quite some time it was just plans and the stable had been gathering dust in the attic. That was until today, when I decided to take the whole thing apart, remove the stone effect paper and scratch off the glue residu to the best of my abilities. All bare handed without the use of tools, so I think you can imagine what my nails look like now. I thought it would be fun to take you guys along and show you my progress. I won't be taking any fancy photos for now, just simple snaps taken with my phone! - This actually is a fancy photo though, but - here's the stable pre-demolishment. As you can see it really isn't looking all that bad! And it would be a Wollepluis-project without a little moodboard. I'm still in doubt if I would like to make the outside of the stable a dark colour with light coloured doors or the other way around. I notice I do kind of like the idea of light blue doors, but I'm not sure if I'm going for that. I've also been thinking about adding cladding to the exterior, but I'm still in doubt about that too. I'm known for eyeballing things, so I think I'll just decide as I go.

Let me reply with a quick update straight away, as this is what the stable is looking like now... a lot worse, haha! As you can see one strip has snapped, but that one was part of the roof and I'm thinking about doing something very different with that, so it really isn't that bad. I've also thrown out the hinches, as I plan on using proper dollhouse ones for that. I'm also not sure if I'll keep the partition, throw it out or move it a bit.

Now I'm thinking I probably needn't have bothered packing it up in so much bubblewrap when I sent it. LOL

Now I'm thinking I probably needn't have bothered packing it up in so much bubblewrap when I sent it. LOL Haha! I remember asking you if it flat packed... it does now! - So in the mean time I've sanded all the pieces and added the first layer of paint. So for the walls I've decided to go for this lovely taupe-like color, that I happen to have a leftover tin of. We used this on the window frames of our house. I thought plain white would be too stark, so this color is perfect! For the roof, doors, floor and bars I use this lovely deep navy, but it will surely need another layer of paint, as it doesn't cover very well. I think I would like to add an edge of navy to the walls, like the first house in my moodboard. No idea what it's called, but I think it looks fancy. I think I'll do the same to the inside of the stall, just a slightly bigger edge, so that the walls don't get 'dirty' from all the pony poo. For now all this needs to dry and then I can flip the pieces over to paint the other side.

I can’t wait to see how this turns out! Stable makeovers are my fave! Oh yes, and I understand why! I keep wanting to skip the painting step and go straight to decorating though. Waiting for the paint to dry takes ages!

Thank you Hayfield Stables ! So I've flipped the blue pieces around yesterday evening, painted the other side and this morning I added a second layer. One more layer of blue to go, a quick check of the edges and then I'll get back to painting the inside of the taupe walls. Just wanted to get the blue all dried up and out of the way, as it literally goes everywhere. After that's done I'll add the blue edges to the walls and then I'll finally get to put the whole thing back together! In the mean time I did order the hinches and a little LED-light. Insanely expensive for what it is, but I just have to have a little lamp!

So while things are drying, I've cleaned up my photo setup. I've swapped my smaller tray for a bigger one, which will hopefully leave enough room for both the stable and a little outdoor scene. I need to get some more reindeer moss, so I can cover a bit more of the side with bushes. I also ditched the 'climbing' roses on the fence. They look lovely in photos, but I have some other plans when it comes to greenery once the stable is done. This is what it looks like now, although I might change it up again a bit later. Actually... I have changed it again five minutes after taking this photo, lol.

what is it you're using for footing in your base? looks almost like corn cob rodent bedding?

As my umpteenth layer of paint is drying, and I really wanted to do something more then just painting wooden boards, I decided to make a pair of smaller boxwood shrubs and 'white wash' my terracotta pots. Mr. Donald approves. I also made this old lantern from cardboard, which Flopsy seems to like a lot!

I haven't posted an update in a while, but frankly I've had a look and a little work at the stable every day. There's just tons of painting, (very slow) drying, flipping over, painting, drying, on and on and on. I had to redo the doors once too. However... today I made a start on ageing and adding the hinches and measuring, painting and glueing on the little decorative strips of wood. Tomorrow morning the paint on the last two panels will be dry, which means I can add the last few hinches and decorations and then put the whole thing back together again! There's still a few more little touch-ups needed after that, but I know it won't be long now before my stable is finished! Here's two more progress photos from today!

And there we go... it's finished! As you can see the little LED-light works really well. All the hinches and latches are functional, the roof comes off in two pieces and I've also decided to make sure I can open up one of the side walls too, for easy acces and photography purposes (although I will need to get a macro-lens for that, my normal lens doesn't do it justice). I've decided to move the center divider a bit, to make a nice large stable and a tack/feed room. If I want I can move that divider too and maybe go for two stalls or whatever I wish.
I'll probably continue adding more props and decorations, but the stable is finally there! Yay!

I have to say that is the most beautiful stable block I have ever seen (both in the real and model worlds!) They look charming and sophisticated at the same time. definitely worth all the time it took waiting for thing to dry I reckon Can’t wait to see what you make next!
