I've been to Hobbycraft today to buy some supplies. I was looking for some ribbon as well but I wasn't sure what would be the best. What ribbon width is the best for Julips? Also, what's the best source of grossgrain ribbon (that non-satin one?) of wide choice of colours/patterns?

3mm wide is usually best for Julip headcollars/bridles. Some of the ones with bigger heads can take slightly wider though (maybe 4 or 5mm) and I sometimes also use 5 or 6mm wide ribbon for rug straps/surcingles/girths. I get most of my ribbon through ebay. It's often Chinese sellers who have the best assortment of colours and the lowest prices. I also got some nice ribbons suitable for making bigger headcollars/rug straps from The Ribbon Room a while back but I don't think they have many narrow ribbons.

I use 3mm for horses, 2mm or 1.5mm for ponies / yearlings. I bought a bundle of 3mm satin ribbon on eBay - 30 different colours in 1m lengths. I think Solstice Sky Studio do grosgrain ribbon in lots of colours - they're on Facebook.

You can also get the grosgrain ribbon from here www.littletrimmings.com in the UK - they also do little buckles and supply to dollmakers and the 1/12 scale minis

I think I have some of that (and a navy version too).

I've just checked ebay and the seller I've bought loads of 3mm grosgrain ribbon from is called newworldsm(though they seem to have put their prices up a little bit since I last bought from them but it's still really cheap for large quantities of ribbon).
