Me neither! Is there an entry fee for the day? Glad we have almost two months notice of what the classes are, I'll certainly need it to get entries together Oooh one question (I've never been to a live show before) - I assume riders are needed in ridden classes, do they have to be Julip riders? I have some smaller off-brand riders I for ponies but won't use them if "Julips only" applies to riders too. Thanks for organizing all this!

Laura will confirm for you, I'm sure, but usually it doesn't matter what make the rider is (same with tack, jumps, other props, etc.) and so you'll see a mixture of Julip ones and other makes/homemade ones. You're right that you do need a rider in ridden classes though

Thank you oh no, riders are one thing but whole sets of tack at once is quite another... for multiple horses... maybe there's a reason I've never entered a live!

I was just thinking that about the tack thing! I have a couple of sets I've made, but I've found that the fake leather bridles rub off the paintwork on faces Both Shantih and Loki have white speckles and they're less than a year old. Might have to buy some proper leather lace and hope that that makes a difference! Can't wait for the show

There is no entry fee and although the models have to be Julip ,the riders can be of any make.

(hubby will be driving me so that means my then 22 month old daughter will be with me) We've had shows in that hall several times before, I'm not sure if you've been to any of them, and I know it varies depending on who can go on a particular date but we've never seemed to struggle for space

Nope. This will be my first Julip only show I'll take my own dinner as I'm a veggy with allergies but tony and Katie might nab some grub lol. Sharing a table is okay as long as there is space for Tony and Katie too.

For anyone who is unable to get to the Julip show in November, I will be running a scaled down version of the show on this forum at roughly the same time, there will be some lovely rosettes for the winners. Please keep a look out for the schedule and details which will follow shortly.

Drop me a PM if anyone wants to judge any particular classes, I'm sort of show Secretary/Steward for this. What sort of criteria do people judge on at julip shows? I only have a few horses to bring so there will be plenty of classes I'm not entering so could help with, but I don't know anything about judging! And would hate to be wrong and unfair. For ridden classes I can guess the fit of the tack or thr right type of tack for the breed is important (correct me if I'm off the mark there!) but what about a colour class? Also (I seem to have constant questions lol) I've seen little cards in photos of American shoss which give the horses details and explain the scene, often in loads of detail like what dressage move is happening and where in the arena the horse is etc...do we use those here?!

I don't want to speak out of turn for Julip's own show but can answer in regards to all of the other Julip live shows I've been to All of the other Julip lives (the Cattistock ones, Lydia's Oxford shows, Tania's Richmond shows, Stacey's Lake District live) have been very much about having fun Judging isn't generally something taken seriously, it's very different to a lot of more general model horse shows in that respect. Quite often we all vote for the winners of classes and although that doesn't seem to be the case here I think the same sort of thing applies - you'll look at condition and paint job and just what you like, which wouldn't be true at a proper serious sort of live show! It's all very relaxed so don't be put off volunteering to judge For ridden classes we might pay more attention to quality of tack, position of rider (are they holding the reins, feet in stirrups, etc.) but just looking at the overall setup is enough, Julip judging really is open to everyone and no-one takes the competitive side too seriously at all You don't have to provide cards with any details (unless it's requested in the class description - sometimes we have classes for lookalike models and then it's a good idea to have a photo of the real horse next to the model) - I'm sure you could if you'd got a scene for some unusual performance type event that people wouldn't recognise but generally there's no need

Replying again, but you might want a note next to your open scene entry, for example, if it's not clear what's going on. Previous shows have had things like 'film scene' classes and sometimes it would be difficult to guess so might be good to give your scene a title, but only needs to be written on a scrap of paper really - we're never too posh at Julip shows, it's all very relaxed and I'm sure everyone else would confirm that. We're a friendly bunch!

What Elli has written is absolutely accurate especially about the fun part, that's the most important bit! None of it is taken too seriously and the mould and colour classes are exactly that, put your relevant model on the table and that's it no need for any sort of card, (the Welsh pony goes in the Welsh pony class, the Arab goes in with the Arabs etc), if you are judging a class just choose the one you like best , we've decided not to do the 'penny' thing as it takes a bit too long and we have quite a few classes to get through,(although we may do it for the 'fun' classes), so please don't be put off if you would like to judge some classes, there may be someone else without a model in that class, so you can always judge it together.
