My new arrival was just asking to be decked out in proper old-fashioned red leather donkey tack, so I went to the local doll's house shop where I remembered seeing some red in their craft-supplies corner, only it turned out to be the super-thick kind, and took me about four hours to shave and file down to a useable thickness and saddlesoap it to remove the ragged edges - never again! I was thinking of making her a full harness but with how long it took me just to get this much for bridle straps she's not getting anything else in red But she does look good in it, so I can consider it time well-wasted, lol The brass clencher browband was done with gold metallic Fimo, which turned out to be disappointingly not very metallic at all, I think at some point I'll have to get gold paint and make them a bit shinier I left the noseband blank so I can add her name later once I've made up my mind which it is, hopefully I can paint it neatly enough as both options are quite short The reins are knotted, cos I remember in the riding school years the smallest ponies always had the problem of the reins being majorly over-long and the easiest solution was to put a knot in the end to keep them out of the way - donkeys being little short-necked things are likely to have the same issue if kitted out with a 'pony' sized pair With Rufus again, and one more cos they're just too adorable together :

That's so good. From my fuzzy memory of donkey beach rides I think a lot of the saddles were just the basic felt pads. I'm sure someone would have made a red one sometime instead of the basic greens and browns...

A pad saddle would be a lot easier to make than a saddle on a tree, too! But having ridden on one of those as an adult, I have to confess I hate them - I used one to break in a small pony before we had a saddle fitted, and it's about the most difficult I've ever found it to stay on board : ANY difference of weight in the stirrups (on corners and if the pony naps being the worst moments) and you just start to tip round sideways. I ended up taking the stirrups off it and just riding like I was bareback, then hacked her up the road to buy a real saddle

Lovely! I actually like the "duller" gold for the browband...more fancy working donkey than show donkey
