I'm feeling especially fired up to make stuff at the moment and I'm working on lots of different things - here are a few of the latest.
My oldest Julip, Shadow, had a very tatty rug that was also a bit small for her so I thought it was time she had a new one.
It's lined with soft white felt to keep her cosy.
When that was done I realised she hadn't got a bridle so made her a fancy browband and a Kimblewick pelham bridle to go with it.
While I was doing browbands I made a collar for my spotty dog:
It's a while since I made a western saddle and I've had an RDLC tree in my toolbox for ages waiting for a pattern. I've used Rio Rondo trees before but the finished saddles are a bit too big for a lot of Julip moulds - the RDLC one is smaller - here's a pic to show the two trees side by side (RDLC tree is on the left):
I'd also got some gold leather I wanted to do something with so decided on a brown and gold colour scheme to see how it would look. Here's the finished saddle on a Welsh Cob with a simple one-ear bridle. I want to take some better pics at some point - when I've made the breastcollar and there's some better light probably.
I need to make a proper saddle cloth too - better get back to work!

Ooooh, that's fantastic! (And would you mind awfully if I nicked that welsh cob? He's stunning!) I've got a western saddle sort of in progress but it looks a bit rubbish right now. XD Any tips/tutorials you know of?

XD Any tips/tutorials you know of? You can nick Lloyd if I can nick one of yours... Kenway perhaps?? Or Harry? What in particular looks 'a bit rubbish' and why? I might be able to give some tips if I knew what was wrong with it...
Unfortunately, I didn't think to do a tutorial for the saddle, but I intend to make another one soon so will try to remember and take lots of photos while I'm working on it. I've still got the instruction booklet from the Rio Rondo kit I started with - it's useful to refer to and helps me to avoid putting stuff together in the wrong order.
Thanks to everyone for the lovely comments.

Jan thanks for putting up the picture of the western trees. I have a Rio Rondo kit stored away somewhere. As a matter of interest which Julip moulds does it fit best? (Though I think I can see one of them on your pictures!) In awe of your tack making skills. Bridles I'm ok with but saddles...not so much!

I think the Rio Rondo set fits the Julip Hunter, TB and AQH best - generally the bigger moulds. I've put one on a Connemara and it looks ok. It would probably fit an Arab Stallion too. For most of the other smaller Julip moulds it's just too big. When I made my kit, I chose the smaller pattern of the two supplied.

Thanks for the tip about choosing the smaller pattern of the two and I definitely have models it will fit. I just need to get some leather dye and get on with it.

Heh, no chance. Well, it looks rubbish because its in pieces and wasn't made using any kind of proper pattern. XD

The cob is adorable in Western tack--how fun!
I second the need for a tutorial as one day I'll actually start making tack...

Heh, no chance. Well, it looks rubbish because its in pieces and wasn't made using any kind of proper pattern. XD Sorry EG, this made me lol. Unfortunately, you won't really know whether it looks rubbish or not until you have a go at putting the bits together. In my opinion, proper patterns aren't essential (unless getting it spot on first time is important), but getting a feel for what the pieces are from reference pics is helpful - and I would guess you've already got that. Everything after that is trial and error in my experience.

Actually the pieces are from a previous attempt at making one so I do know what it looked like assembled! XD I didn't have a proper tree last time though so that's something I'll need to work on this time round.

Love love love that western saddle! Where did you find gold leather? Do you have any cowgirl/boy riders? I can't remember now if they ever existed in Julip history. I'd be useless at Western saddles, I have absolutely no idea how they 'work' apart from that the pommel bit ties onto cows somehow…

Lovely Don't know how people like your self manage to do those browbands. Tried and failed many times.

Been meaning to do something with it for ages, finally got round to it. I don't have a Julip cowboy but I made a western rider from a doll kit I bought on the internet.
