how about - as an idea ...? All the spares pics are added here, with prices, you then have 24 (or 48 etc) hours to view them and decide which one(s) you would like. You then send in your 'wish list' and your name gets added to that 'hat' for that model. Once everyone has sent in their 'wish list' the names are drawn to see who the winner is of that model? The winner is then notified that they have the option of purchasing that model or passing it on to the next name out the hat. To stop everyone just adding all the models to their 'wish list' you could limit it to say 5 choices only ... as I said just a thought

With the random nature of the drawings though wouldn't you potentially still end up with some people 'winning' multiple models and some people not getting drawn for anything and having to go without (there would especially be a high chance of not getting anything for anyone who was only after one particular model).

I can usually only afford one model so I'd be in trouble if I tried for several I liked and was drawn for more than one!

It's a tricky one isn't it there's usually (I've noticed) good etiquette when the show spares come online, like people who went to the show generally won't go for stuff (and it's not because they didn't like them, often you hear 'oooh I was really tempted with this one!' so I think generally we are fairly good. Like others have said though, please don't worry too much Laura, it doesn't sound as though there is an easy solution. Maybe two batches with the popular ones done in a similar way and then we apply a bit of etiquette, which like I said earlier we are quite good at.

I agree with the suggestion of limiting to a maximum of two per person (two equines, that is, not that the same person couldn't get some pets as well!), that seems the fairest way of making sure there's more chance for each member to be able to get something, especially if it's all done on one big spares night and there's plenty of horses to 'go round' everyone who'd like to try for one. Dividing it into smaller batches spread onto different nights wouldn't make it easier for the unlucky/slower posters to grab anything, just easier for the quick people to get more horses on several different days I'm not keen on the idea of all the posts going up at once, that just seems to make it even more biased in the favour of those with quick connections/computers who can click the posts and load the pictures super-fast, and get their Buys typed in before anyone slower has even had chance to open a post

The problem with just having one big spares night though is many people can't get online then at all so then they probably miss everything and it doesn't make the slightest difference how fast or slow their internet connection is then or even if limits are placed on what other people can buy if by the time they can get online all that's left is a couple of models they don't like, or nothing at all. I've missed them even going up for sale at least a couple of times because the time spares are usually sold isn't great for me and I know other people haven't been able to get online too when spares have been sold. I genuinely don't see how it can be made fair for everyone and how it can be guaranteed that everyone gets something they really want only through selling spares, there doesn't seem to be a way to do that, some people are surely always going to be hampered by slow internet, some people are always going to be hampered by the timing of when they're sold, and some will be hampered by both however it's done.

Why not put the post up a day before so we have 24 hours to view but we can't comment on the posts? (they are locked for 24 hours) This gives everyone a chance to read and look at the models and prices and work out which ones they want in advance Also limiting to 2 each person for another 24 hours would be good. After that FFA! If you make loads of pets and tack and things instead of a normal advent calander you can do days of christmas, day 1 is this set of spares.... (pets/tack) things? each day until all gone

I think doing it how we normally do but split across more than one night (maybe a normal Sunday evening with another batch mid-week?) might be the best option that I can see. The idea of limiting to one per person for a period of time would help perhaps too but I don't think that putting them all up at once helps anything, if anything I think that makes it worse personally.
