So I've had to be sensible and pack away my stable yard to some extent (I've got the Julip three and two stable block still) but the loose boxes have been put away now as they weren't practical (the one with the tack room has been dismantled but I've made a three box building instead so I can bring it out for photostories).
Anyway (long story!) I've bought an MDF room box which will make a much better tackroom but I'm unsure how to decorate the inside; do I need to treat the wood first? What paint should I use? Or could I paper with plain white paper (but PVA seems to make the paper go soggy and wrinkle!)

You can do pretty much anything! Look up some doll's house decorating tutorials - pinterest in particular is a good place to start! My tack room is an MDF roombox too and I just painted it with a testor pot of household emulsion and glued a printed out wooden floor to a piece of card which was then glued to the bottom. Some of the ink ran in places but it kinda looks like wear and tear so I haven't bothered to replace it. Tack Room by Christine Sutcliffe, on Flickr\ }

Ah brilliant; we've got some emulsion from attempting to decorate the spare bedroom upstairs so I can use that! I'll have to get another board started on Pinterest, didn't know there was so much on there! Thank you

I used paper Then used balsa wood and drawing pins with knobbly bits. The balsa wood not only it easier to push pins into, but also stops them going all the way through the MDF. Doweling wood makes up extra tack hooks. My tack room looks a lot emptier than this as had to sell a lot when forced to move again (stupid landlords wanting to sell on short notice pfft) but hope to fill it up again eventually and keep it full. I did also have some dolls house lights in here but they kept falling off, even with sticky tape, so might get some battery powered ones next time as they are sturdier than ones with wires.

I love looking at other people's tack rooms - mine is far from finished!

Ah Cookie I love your tack room! It takes me back to the first yard I ever rode at that's a great idea about the balsa, did you glue the paper with PVA or a glue stick?

I used PVA on this one but all others I use double sided sticky tape just on the edges. Makes for much neater work and it doesn't bubble or wrinkle. Wish I thought of it when first started this one
